Leah Mell

Writer. Translator. Editor.

Leah Mell (she/they) is a genderqueer lesbian writer originally from the American South. At present, she is pursuing an MFA in Creative Writing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her obsessions are flamboyance, persona, the queer body, and the archive. She is currently working on a book project—part lyric memoir, part cultural history—that explores queer families in the South and their lineages, focusing specifically on her years performing and loving in the drag community in the Carolinas with her own queer family. Her work has recently appeared in Roxane Gay’s Emerging Writer Series in The Audacity, Baltimore Review, Kitchen Table Quarterly, and Rough Cut Press. She is the Engagement and Design Editor at Witness Magazine and served as a contributor to the NEH grant-funded project, Mina Loy: Navigating the Avant-Garde. She is fond of ghosts and the sea.
